She studied at Shanxi Agricultural University for her undergraduate and postgraduate education. In 1994 she graduated with a master's degree. She is now teaching at Nanjing Agricultural University. She works on cotton genome and molecular breeding research. She chairs the International Cotton Genome Structural Genome Working Group.
